Sign stating "TOBACCO USE IS PROHIBITED" shall be prominently displayed at school entrances, in other appropriate areas within the building, and in school-owned vehicles.
New employees will be given a copy of the Smoke/Tobacco Free Environment policy and ruling.
Each administrator has the authority and duty to enforce the Smoke/Tobacco Free Environment Policy as adopted by the Board of Education on August, 1992 and revised May 23, 2005.
Staff members who violate this policy will be subject to the following:
Staff member will be provided a written copy of the policy and ruling, and will receive a verbal warning.
Staff member will be given a written warning which will be placed in his/her personnel file.
Staff member will be subject to disciplinary action which may include suspension without pay (not to exceed three (3) days) as determined by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
Staff member will be subject to disciplinary action which may include dismissal.
Due process procedures in accordance with Board policies and statutes of the State of Indiana will be followed in all cases of employee violation of the Smoke/Tobacco Free policy.
If an individual who is not an employee of the Carmel Clay Schools violates the policy, the building administrator will request that person to refrain from smoking and/or using tobacco products. If the person does not comply with that request, the building administrator may take those steps necessary to remove the person from the school building. The building administrator shall not use physical force to remove persons from the school building but shall call a police officers to accomplish that removal.
